Fruited Iced Water

Last week we were having quite a heat wave, and as you know, water is simply essential, especially during such brutal weather.

As water can get boring after sometime, I spiced it up as a refreshing iced water with fresh citrus right from my fridge!

For this version I used thin rounds of grapefruit and lime.  Not only was it really taste, and a welcome change from the usual tap or bottled variety, it’s so healthy and the fruit has so many wonderful nutrients! Just a few slices, maybe 6-8, were enough for an entire pitcher, which I refilled a few times.

Delicious and Healthy Fruited Iced Water

Delicious and Healthy Fruited Iced Water

Just this past Tuesday night, when I hosted a “Sip and Shop” cocktail party and fundraiser at my home for friends, I kept the lime but replaced the grapefruit with lemon as I thought it would have broader appeal.

Making the fruited iced water is so simple:

  • Head to your local farmers market, health food store or supermarket and see which ripe citrus fruits catch your eye.  Lemon, lime and grapefruit work best, but I bet starfruit could be fabulous!  Of course you could also use cucumber slices and pretend you’re at a spa for the day too…
  • Slice whatever single fruit or combination you choose into thin slices, just a bit more than a sliver, and put them in the bottle of a pitcher (glass is best for visual purposes.)
  • Then fill with water and refrigerate, unless it’s already quite cold, and serve!

Could it be simpler? Don’t forget to reserve the rest of the fruit to accompany your seltzer water or tea!

As an alternative to these fruited iced water suggestions, throw some gorgeous, plump grapes in the freezer for stunning ice cubes!  Better yet, wait until you see how great they taste as they thaw…

For just one more tip, when serving white wine, throw those frozen grapes in to help it chill…a classy, flavorful touch that won’t alter the taste of the wine or melt and dilute the flavor!

How do you like your iced water?

I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Yonni -

I had used grapes for ice cubes before, but haven’t tried making the fruity iced water yet. It sounds perfect for a nice sunny Summer’s day, which we will hopefully have a few more of before August is over! :)

  2. I’m with Rosie – fruit cubes rock! Mash up some berries or your fav fruit, put them in an ice cube try, and then add to your favorite drink. Any fruit works well in water, and it often doesn’t take much fruit to flavor either a glass or a pitcher. When the night comes, peach cubes in champagne make a Bellini. Blackberry cubes in a zinfandel – yum. Dark cherry cubes in a syrah – even better.

  3. Rosie ~ I’m so happy you liked this idea. It’s so versatile you can really do anything to make it your own.

Rob ~ my mouth is watering! What totally fabulous ideas ~ especially the dark cherries in Syrah. I’ll have to try it
