Sadie’s Haven: Horse Rescue and Sanctuary

Our non-profit corporation’s purpose is to provide safe and experienced care and shelter for equines that are neglected, abused and/or abandoned horses

Sadies Sanctuary
We also provide educational tours and day camp programs for the community with special consideration for undeprivileged children and teens.

Sadie was the inspiraton for the hors rescue sancturay

The horse on the left of this photo is Sadie. She inspired us all to begin our horse rescue efforts and so we named the sanctuary in her honor. Sadie was used as a breeding factory. She was pregnant with her ninth foal by the time she was eleven years old. As a result, she sustained a severely damaged knee and could barely walk.

We are a non profit public charity 501 (c) (3) horse rescue and sanctuary operation located in Sonoma County . The directors on our board have accumulated many years of experience, in the skills necessary to properly care for horses, so that they are healthy and psychologically well adjusted. We excel, in the specialized care, of horses that are neglected, abused, and/or abandoned.

Frequently, we encounter horses that are very old, or have some physical or mental disability. As a result, they have been determined to be useless, by their former owners. These horses are often found in deplorable conditions, severely emaciated, or ill, with chronic medical conditions, such as cancer or worse. These medical maladies typically remain untreated.

If it were not for our efforts, many, if not all, of these horses would find themselves heading for the slaughter houses in Texas or Canada, via the black market. They would then end up on the dinner plate overseas, where horse meat is considered to be a delicious delight. These equines, have dedicated their lives to us, in activities associated with both work and pleasure. CERTAINLY, we need to stand behind them, in their hour of need, as they have stood behind us, with their dedicated devotion to our desires.

We currently have 25 horses in our care, varying in their needs. Some are just too old to ride and are therefore cast aside. Some are suffering from chronic lameness or breathing problems. Some have long term medical conditions like cancer. Our goal is to care for them and keep them comfortable and happy for the rest of their natural lives.

We inform and educate the public about the plight of these horses, through tours and day camp programs for the community. We stress special consideration for underprivileged children and teens. We also offer youngsters the opportunity to complete their community service requirements in their schooling.

We seek assistance, from all sectors of society, in this absolutely necessary mission. These horses are totally dependent upon your generosity, to enable them to live out their lives, having their needs fulfilled as they have fulfilled ours. Corporate sponsors, individual sponsors, and individual donations are all direly needed, to enable us, to insure the safety, security and well-being of these equines.

In our current economic times, so many of our equine friends are being abused, abandoned or just illegally sent to slaughter. I am sure that you feel the same way we do. All of us do not want these horses, who have worked their whole lives for us, to meet a dismal and undeserved fate. Please assist us in saving these horses from the horrors that await them without our assistance.

If you don't have integrity, you have nothing. You can't buy it. You can have all the money in the world, but if you are not a moral and ethical person, you really have nothing.

  2. I am currently helping a small, horribly underfunded horse shelter here in Georgia raise funds. It’s awful how many abused and neglected animals there are in this world! Keep up the good work!

  5. It’s so nice to know that there are people out there who cares for horses. What a shame to those people who have done those horrible things to that kind of animal. There should be then a law who’ll protect the horses.
