The concept of vertical gardens has been around for a while, but previously it has not been that accessible to gardeners who want to create their own. Vertical gardens can come in all shapes and sizes – Patrick Blanc has covered entire buildings – but they can also grace any home, balcony or office.

This simple but effective do-it-yourself vertical garden can be created in 6 easy to follow steps.
Using a limited number of supplies such as;
- a pallet
- backing paper
- a hammer and nails
- planting soil & plants
this DIY garden can be constructed with ease.
This is the perfect project for gardeners, families or DIY enthusiasts who are looking to create a unique garden at very little cost. When complete, the garden could be placed anywhere without taking up masses of space. The garden will be fairly easy to maintain – only requiring water every so often.
The best thing about this project though is that you can make it your own. Plant whatever you want in your garden and watch it grow!

this is an amazingly brilliant idea for a vertical garden. I’ve got an untidy hedgerow which (if you can imagine this) it is ALL TOP and bare branches low down. It’s difficult to get anything to grow below the hedgerow as its a very shady acidic soil … so now I’ve got the perfect solution to line up some pallets full of beautful semi shade loving plants… wowo

this is amazing and sooooo simple. Why didnt I think of this before. Thats it Im going to get myself some pallets and make some vertical gardens. I fancy putting tons of strawberry plants in them against an unsightly wall I have . oh I cant wait to get started.
ooh my birds will love it if I plant them up with strawberries Sue. A vertical garden just for the birds… not a bad idea is it? I’ts actually a great idea as you can attach hanging baskets and birdfeeders to the wooden framework of the pallet which is far easier than drilling into walls and having to put wall plugs in etc etc. This would make it all a brilliant extended vertical garden wouldnt it then?
me too. Good idea to use it for strawberry planting Sue. I’ve already got a few old wooden pallets stashed behind the shed I’m sure. Time to drag them out and do something creative with them. These verticle gardens are mazing ive seen some great ones in various places on the web.
I cant wait to get started either Roberta. Think Ill be going for mixed planting of vegs and flowers that complement them. vertical gardens here we come eh?
Your idea for vertical garden is so inspiring !I’m pretty new to your post, but am enjoying what I have read so far. This post particularly caught my attention. Great work keep it up..

This is a wonderful idea. Plain and simple like all DIY should be. I just called my wife to take a look and this weekend I’ll be hunting some pallets. This is simply brilliant!

Ive already got my first pallet Bob. Another couple on the way. So I’ll be making a start with my verical gardens as soon as possible. Quite exciting really …
This is amazing, I would’ve never thought of something like this myself. When I read the title of your article I was thinking it would be something along the lines of the topsy turvy tomato plants, but this vertical gardening idea is something that not only allows you to grow plants but is a decorative piece as well. Looks great!
