I find it almost unbelievable that professional businesses would outsource their SEO to companies that use spam techniques for commenting throughout the web.
But THEY DO!
There are far better ways to build your business branding as well as getting some quality and valuable back-links, like having a real author bio and guest blogging maybe as a feature writer or author on sites in your niche to reach out to a new audience who might not have seen your writing elsewhere.
But commenting is also valuable for link building and your business branding providing you get it right!
The main thing about commenting on the web, is to be part of a community and to add value to the post that you are reading. Commenting is a great way to make new connections, particularly if you have a gravatar image, ( which might be your personal photo or even your brand logo), because over time people begin to recognize you and your brand and they will begin to respond to you.
And sooner or later they may come over to visit your own site to learn more about you, simply because you:
- might seem to be a genuinely nice person to get to know more,
- or most probably because you have shown that you are an expert in your niche and may have more valuable information worth reading
I have previously written about protecting our sites sites from spam commenting but I really do find it ludicrous that business are still continuing to employ the services of what is probably called “black hat seo” who still have the audacity to say they can get you thousands of back-links to your web site for a cheap price.
Cheap outsourced back-linking services can damage your reputation
Why would any professional business commit to these cheap outsourced back-linking tactics considering the implications of the Google Panda and Google Penguin updates that are concerned about quality on the web and are now well aware of the businesses sites that have too many back-links with dodgy keywords spammed all over the web?
There are plenty quality white hat SEO or search engine marketing consultants who will do justice for your business and who are well aware of the need for a quality SEO campaign and the need to uphold your business branding. So if you are thinking about outsourcing in any way, ( see I am not knocking outsourcing full stop) just make sure that your company’s representatives ( because that is what they ultimately are) understand the meaning of ethical business, branding and value on the web for you.
Low quality outsourced back-linking techniques are pathetic and will damage your brand reputation
In the light of my early morning “grief” with some commenting today ( and they never stop believe me) I thought I’d add a few just to either give you a chuckle or to help you realize that these types of comments will actually harm your business branding whether you are the “culprit” or whether you are publishing such comments on your site.
These comments are on behalf of professional companies who will not be getting a back-link BTW but I will mention thier brief so you can get an idea of who they might be.

This might not be the ideal place to request this, but I’m trying to find a business coaching atlanta and have no method to find out the very best company. I have looked at this company URL and wonder if you have any good reviews on them at all
The backlink was…. Yes you guessed it.. the same URL as the URL that he added into his comment. Self promotion can be pitiful sometimes. I guess that just about sums up how clever they think they really are? Putting that comment into search reveals 8 sites already that have fallen for his endearing request for help. I wonder should I email them and let them know maybe?
It will be interesting to see just how many outsourced spam comments I will get on this post too. I will let you know!

I think there are going to be a lot of real shocks ahead for any sites that are outsourcing their backlinking strategy to get hundreds of backlinks. The best sites to get a backlink from are those that might make it very difficult for you to do so and hence they are using high quality editorial discretion.
I totally agree with you Pete. I am not sure why any sites would just let any old spam on their comments though? What do they seek to gain? Do they get more traffic from it all or is it to show their readers if they have any that their posts are regularly read? Because if it’s the latter it is hardly likely that posts are being read as the spammer simply wants to get his cutting and pasting of comments done as fast as possible doesn’t he?
I believe if you are going to outsource for seo backlinks for your website, you have to be very careful when choosing them. Have you heard any good feedback about them? Some business company wants cheap seo for their website but most of the time, those cheap seo tends to give poor and spammy backlinks – usually created by software. And those cheap seo might also give you negative seo instead of helping you rank and search better on the net. And also, since the google algo update, quantity should not be the first thing should have in your mind but the quality you can get.
