Building Brands in an Ethos of Sharing

Using the Power of People and Ethical Business, Paying it Forward to Green Schools for the Future

Authority Builds the Foundation to a Sustainable Online Business

Why it is important to brand your self as an expert in your field

Are there certain figures in your life who command respect, people who you listen to attentively when they speak? Perhaps the person could be your superior at work, a teacher, or even your father. Whoever it is, I can assure you that these people have acted in a certain manner to earn the respect you give them.

Figures of authority are naturally respected by the community and these individuals attract the attention of ordinary folk. They possess a charisma that often mesmerizes those who listen to them and they have the power to sway an individual’s perception. These individuals are born leaders and they know precisely how to build relationships with almost anyone they come in contact with. They have the uncanny ability to always say the right thing at the right time.

So, what do people of this nature have to do with online marketing? Well, beside the authority figures we find in our community there are also numerous authority figures in the online world. Many of these individuals earn 6-7 figure incomes and much of their success is attributed to the way they positioned themselves in the online industry.

The Power of Online Authority Figures

Respected Industry Experts: An online authority figure is seeing by individuals as a respected figure that possesses the insider knowledge and expertise, and is able to provide valuable advice on subjects related to the niche that the figure is in. People in general look up to these sort of figures and they trust every word that flows from the mouth of the authority figure.

Natural Relationship Builders: People who are in positions of authority tend to be able to build relationships at will. This point is critical because in order to grow a business – online or offline – you will need to nurture a relationship with your clients. A relationship is what ensures you continue making sales from your customer base.

A Personal Brand: If you thirsty drink a coca-cola; if you feel for something sweet – eat a snickers bar. What do these two products have in common? They are established brands that are lodged in the minds of everyone. In the online world: if you wanted to learn how to build a cupboard you can go to a website like askthebuilder.com. This site and its owner are an established brand.

You see, an authority builds him self up as a brand and he becomes the go-to guy for information in his area of expertise.

What does all of this have to do with you?

If you are considering entering the online industry you will need to establish yourself as an authority figure to build your online business. You need to become the “go-to” guy or gal. And I assure you it isn’t hard!

All you need to do to become an authority and a trusted figure is to soak yourself into your chosen niche and learn everything you can about the subject. Read ebooks, join forums, enrol in courses, and do whatever it takes to gain the expert status that is respected.

Thereafter, build your website and create your content with value in mind. Use your newfound knowledge to offer unmatched value through your content. Your site will begin on a small scale, and as you promote your site, people will begin to realize the level of value you are offering, and they will recommend your site and they themselves will subscribe to your email list or your blog.

This will mark the beginning of your road toward becoming an authority figure, and it will be the foundation of a sustainable business that will continue to grow regardless of the economic conditions around you.

If you don't have integrity, you have nothing. You can't buy it. You can have all the money in the world, but if you are not a moral and ethical person, you really have nothing.
