Here’s a few of our favorite simple and easy lifestyle changes that you can make to make a big difference on the environment and your wallet.

  • Before starting up your computer, plan ahead what you will use it for.

This will save you both time and reduce amount of energy your computer uses. Also, you could set aside one day of the week where you will not use your computer at all. Instead of surfing the web, go on a walk or work on a home renovation project.

  • Before throwing out your old sofa or scratched up coffee table, take it over to a thrift store or charity center.

There will be many people there who will gladly take it off your hands there. Also if you know it won’t rain for a few days, leave it out by the curb. Also, you could simply wait for spring time and open up a garage sale.

  • Switch out your harmful weed killing spray bottles with white vinegar.

You will essentially get the same effect with doing much less damage to the soil and surrounding environment.
Also you will save a lot of money from buying the name brand products.

  • Instead of renewing your magazine or newspaper subscription, subscribe to an online newspaper.

Many local newspapers are making the switch to posting their stories online, and you will help reduce the amount of paper produced and wasted.

  • If you have kids, and are looking to save some money, go to a thrift store

You can purchase used clothing for nothing compared to what you would have to spend at a department store. If those used clothes are not bought, they are either thrown away to make room for new inventory, or their prices are lowered, making it harder for thrift stores to survive.

  • If you’re looking to move, and you don’t need very much space, you may want to consider moving to a smaller environment.

Your energy and heating bills will drop dramatically and your environmental footprint will be significantly reduced.

  • In the winter, set the thermostat low at night.

You don’t need hot air blowing throughout the night when you are asleep under warm covers. In the summertime leave the windows open at night and turn the AC off. That will allow your house to naturally cool off for the next day.
