These days everyone is looking to be as ecologically responsible as possible. One of the areas that is changing the most in the push for environmental responsibility is housing. Houses around the world are becoming more and more eco-friendly. This helps the environment as well as the homeowners’ pockets. Building an eco home lowers the energy costs of heating and cooling it.

Check out these three amazing eco homes from around the world.

Vancouver, Canada

Vancouver is a place that is on the forefront of eco-friendliness, so it is no surprise that this city is full of homes being built to be as environmentally responsible as possible. There is a company called Lanefab in Vancouver that is building houses that are extremely eco-friendly.

These Lanefab eco homes have a number of features that save energy.

lanefab-eco-houseA Lanefab house is built with local materials that are recycled whenever possible. It is designed by an LEED accredited home designer. It comes with heat sinks that recycle the heat from shower water and the heating ducts, ensuring maximum efficiency. Solar panels adorn the roof to make the home even more eco-friendly. The company even offers a plan to allow homeowners to get carbon credits to ensure that the energy used to construct and operate the house will lead to an overall positive effect on the carbon footprint of the region.

Epson, UK

Epson is not quite on the environmental vanguard like Vancouver is, but it is starting to build some amazing eco homes nonetheless. The first eco home built in Epson is in the Noble Park development on West Park Road.

This house is part of a five-home pilot project to study the development and construction of eco homes in the UK.

Noble Park Eco HomeThe four-bedroom home has massive layers of insulation to protect the home from the elements, keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It will have an eco-friendly heating and cooling system, and energy efficient appliances will be installed. Solar panels will also be used to lower the home’s carbon footprint. You can get this Eco Home and other Epsom property for sale at Zoopla which has a large base of eco homes to look through.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

This is one of the 20 largest cities in the world, and it is constantly looking for ways to go greener.

One of the first eco homes to be built in Buenos Aires was the Orchid House in 2008.

It was inspired by the shape of an orchid and constructed with sustainable, local materials. It is designed to make the best use of natural light for energy efficiency and it has lots of insulation to lower heating and cooling energy use.

You know… I have a dream of owning an eco home.. one with a tad of luxury but still treading as lightly on the planet as possible.

Is yours an eco home?  I’d love to hear about it.
