Creating a workplace that encourages high employee morale can mean the difference between success and failure for a company. A place of business where the workers dread work each day can result in high turnover, lack of motivation, and poor performance, leading to disappointing profits. It is in the best interest of the company, therefore, that those in the executive positions create an atmosphere to raise workplace morale and unite employees for success.
Here are five ways to help raise business standards and improve your company’s work atmosphere:
1. Listen to your employees.
When managers are unable to take suggestions, tensions rise and employees feel unappreciated. The staff, who are intimately involved with the daily activities of the office, often have wonderful ideasfor helping projects run smoother. As a bonus, the employees will feel more involved and engaged with their work, leading to improved performance.
2. Offer activities such as retreats.

While this may seem counterintuitive for increasing profits, many businesses have found that allowing their employees to de-stress leads to higher work satisfaction and therefore higher productivity. Group activities also help employees to bond and create trusting friendships.
3. Get to know your employees.
Consider treating people to lunch, perhaps as a bonus for a recent accomplishment. Work to create an atmosphere of approachability for those under you. Employees will feel more at ease coming to you with questions, which can help with work quality, and will also feel more comfortable in the environment, which will increase loyalty and performance standards.
4. Offer opportunities for continuing education.
Employees are often looking for ways to continue their education so they can work effectively and advance their careers. Offering continuing education seminars can assist with this goal, and produce better workers for the office.
5. Consider if there are employees that should be fired.
You may wish to speak with your corporate counsel before pursuing this option, but there are often one or two people within a department that infect those around them with negativity. Think if there is anyone that really should be weeded out to allow the office to thrive.
Every company wants to maximize their productivity and increase their bottom line. Creating an environment that minimizes turnover and encourages high productivity is only going to benefit the employees and the company in the long run. These simple steps should help executives go a long way in raising employee morale.

These are great ways to increase productivity. People are the most important asset you have in a company. And i totally agree with creating morale rather than instilling fear.

I’ve had first hand exprience of fear being instilled in an already established and very trusted work team and it wasn’t a pretty picture at all. Team morale was completely rock bottom and none of us had any heart on our work ever again. Guess what… all the best employees moved onto to work elsewhere within a few short months. I left the organization full stop and have never looked back. There remained a fast turnover with the next generations of employees too. Until one day they realized it was best to retrain the manager and move her on to other pastures where her approach would be nipped in the bud with stronger employees who would never take any of her “silliness”.
It’s really a tough environment to work on when fear is the “motivation” . The organization will not last long. To put it bluntly, people are not circus animals where you train them with ‘whips of your silliness’ . lol
And there is still lots of companies that do rely on fear as the motivation Felicia. Unfortunately the job market doesn’t make it easy for employees to move jobs quite as easily as they could a few years back and lots of people are just grateful for having a job even if it makes them unhappy.
It is important that all employees have strong relationship to each other. It can help to lessen their stress at work, and improve productivity when they don’t feel stress and they feel comfortable at their work place. Unfortunately, there are executives who don’t actually listen to their subordinates because they think they are much better than them and their idea is much smarter than their subordinates can provide and they get disappointed if their subordinates are not on the same level as them when it comes to thinking. There’s nothing wrong with entertaining new ideas and it can somehow help the development of a company in the long run.
